When a group of artists gets together to chair a benefit, you can bet that it will be a masterpiece – colorful, creative and most of all fun! The Center for Creative Education will kick off its 20th anniversary year in style – with the second annual “Circus at the Center” on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Event Ringmaster Bruce Helander is teaming up with co-chairs Cheryl Gowdy and Vicki Halmos to host the benefit, which received rave reviews last year. CLICK HERE TO VIEW PICTURES FROM LAST YEAR
The fun, casual party captures the zany excitement of being a little kid under the big top, “Circus at the Center” is billed as the greatest little party on earth – inviting guests to dress in “circus chic” to enjoy a night of great food, live music and dancing. The Center’s Northwood Village location will be transformed into the “Center Ring,” through the inspiration of designer extraordinaire Bruce Sutka.
This year’s featured musical will be a cabaret-style performance by the cast of “Tuck Everlasting,” directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw, who has famously directed “Book of Mormon” and “Aladdin.” “Tuck Everlasting” is an adaptation of a 1975 fantasy children’s novel written by Natalie Babbitt. Considered a classic of modern children’s literature, the book explores the concept of immortality, suggesting it might not be as desirable as it appears.
“We are grateful to all our chairs, along with their incredible committee, for planning such an amazing fundraiser,” said CEO, Robert Hamon. “Their efforts will ensure that the kickoff of our 20th anniversary is a huge success. Our work to educate local children through the arts is so important and we’re thrilled with the opportunity to spotlight it with this fun event.”
Sponsors for the event include Altima International, Palm Beach Society and Wilmington Trust.
The Center for Creative Education works with children from low income neighborhoods, using the arts as a vehicle to help them understand science, math, literacy and other areas of learning. CCE merges art with academics to bring learning to life, by engaging children in hands-on, project-based education.
