A Wine & Culinary Experience in the Tradition of Thomas Jefferson’s Love for France
A Black-Tie Event hosted by The Florida Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America, Inc.
Guests will be treated to an entertaining evening complete with professional re-enactments of historical moments as well as a four course Culinary Dinner with an outstanding selection of Moët Hennessy wines. This wine and culinary experience is designed in the tradition of Thomas Jefferson’s love for France. Live auction items will include a historical trip to France, a bronze bust of Lafayette by Pierre Jean David d’Angers, and an exclusive painting of the Hermione by Laurent Dareau.
Miles Young, President of Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America, and Worldwide Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ogilvy & Mather explains: “Hermione Voyage 2015 celebrates the indomitable spirit of the Marquis de Lafayette, teen hero of the American Revolution and French Founding Father of the United States. It also marks the return of this historic tall ship to the iconic ports of the War of Independence, in one of the most remarkable and authentic reconstructions in the world. This ambitious project brings history alive while exemplifying Lafayette’s family motto “Why Not?”
The reconstructed Hermione, will make her grand U.S. return voyage in the summer of 2015. As the Hermione moves up the Eastern seaboard (with stops in Yorktown, Mount Vernon, Alexandria, Annapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Greenport, Newport, Boston, Castine and Lunenburg). It will be accompanied by a range of pier side activities. These include in some ports a Traveling Exhibition and a Heritage Village that will be accessible to the public. The Hermione Voyage 2015 is part of an expansive outreach program with cultural events, exhibitions, and educational programs that celebrate the trip and mark its progress. A robust social media activation for the voyage expands the reach of the project to millions of people.
